stedelijk museum fonds

The Stedelijk Museum has an independent support fund, the Stedelijk Museum Fonds, with which we seek to establish fruitful partnerships with private benefactors wishing to provide the museum with substantial, long-term support. The Stedelijk Museum Fonds has an independent and unsalaried Executive Board that decides over the allocation of the funds entrusted to it, for which the Board of Directors of the museum is required to file a request.

The aim of the Stedelijk Museum Fonds is to expand, conserve and present its collection, engage in research, deliver educational programs, and stage exhibitions.

You can be directly and personally involved in helping the Stedelijk realize its ambitions by becoming a private benefactor of the Stedelijk Museum Fonds with donations starting at € 5,000 a year. All sizes of donations are gratefully received, and if you would like to make a smaller gift you are very welcome as a Friend or Donor.

Different ways to give

There are a variety of ways to make gifts to the museum. You can give a one-time or incidental donation or make a periodical donation. You can also donate through estate-planning, or by making the Stedelijk Museum a beneficiary, and/or create a Named Fund.

The Stedelijk Museum Fonds is grateful for gifts of any size, and provides a range of privileges in appreciation of your support. There are a variety of ways in which you can become involved with the most important museum for modern and contemporary art and design in the Netherlands. Major donors can become a Fellow or Trustee, in consultation with the Board of Directors of the museum. We have outlined a number of the opportunities we offer below.

  • Stedelijk Museum Fonds Benefactor (starting at € 5.000 x 5 a year)
  • Stedelijk Museum Fonds Fellow (starting at € 15.000 x 5 a year)
  • Stedelijk Museum Fonds Trustee (for major donors)

The Stedelijk Museum and the Stedelijk Museum Fonds are public benefit organizations (known in Dutch as ANBI’s) and are exempt from paying gift tax and death duties.

The Geefwet offers an additional incentive for deducting income tax on periodical gifts that you make to cultural organizations with special status (the so-called Culturele ANBI-status). Until at least 2016, a multiplier of 1.25 will be applied to the first € 5.000 of your gift. The usual 100% applies to the residual amount. The periodical donation is not required to satisfy a minimum threshold or maximum limit.
